Types of Anal Surgeries
- Fistula Treatment – Fistula is an abnormal passage that is formed as a result
- Fissure Treatment – Fissure is the tearing of the skin around the anal area. If the fissure is small, it gets healed on its own. However, if it is bigger it may need active treatment. Fissures often occur after the delivery, chronic constipation, prolonged diarrhea, anal intercourse, etc.
- Piles Treatment – Piles or hemorrhoids are the swollen veins near the anal area that bleed often, especially while passing stools. They can occur after chronic constipation and childbirth as well.

Understand the Anal Surgical Procedures
- Fissure Treatment – Small anal fissures heal on their own within a few weeks with prescribed ointments, NSAIDs and stool-softeners, etc. Along with that, some lifestyle changes like a high-fiber diet, drinking water, etc are also advised. It is advised to avoid tight clothing to help heal the fissure. In case the fissure is large and fails to get treated by the conservative measures then Lateral Internal Sphincterectomy is performed to treat it. In this surgery, a small cut is made in the anal sphincter muscle to relieve the pressure on the fissure and to help it heal well.
- Fistula Treatment – When a new passage is formed between the skin and the anus then it is known as a fistula. It can be single or multiple in number as well. The only treatment for Fistula is fistulotomy. In this surgery, the fistula tract is opened and is allowed for faster healing. The patient can get discharged the very next day after surgery. Other options for fistula treatment are endoscopic ablation and laser surgery etc.
- Piles Treatment – Depending upon the extent of piles and their severity, the best treatment for piles is chosen. The treatment ranges from sclerotherapy, stapler hemorrhoidectomy, rubber band ligation, laser hemorrhoidectomy, etc. The piles surgery is a minor one and the patient can go home the same day in most cases.
Precautions About Anal Surgeries
- Take the Stool Softeners and high-fiber diet to avoid any constipation episodes as advised.
- Do use a sitz bath 2 to 4 times a day as it will reduce the rectal spasms and promotes healing.
- Avoid using toilet paper but in the case of children, use alcohol-free baby wipes.
- Sitting for a long time should be avoided to allow the time for healing.
