Peyronie’s disease occurs when there is the deposition of plaque or hardened tissue inside the penis. This leads to abnormal curvature or bending of the penis in the erection state. This can be very painful for the patient. If the plaque is formed on the upper side of the penis then it bends upwards and when the deposition is on the lower side of the penis then it bends downwards. Medicines – The best non-surgical treatment for Peyronie’s condition that is primarily given is collagenase or Xiaflex injections. Many other medicines are given in combination such as colchicine, carnitine, tamoxifen, etc. These medicines are rich in antioxidants and also help in reducing swelling.
Penile Traction – In the mild cases of Peyronie’s disease, mild traction or stretch is applied to the penis daily. The patient is taught to perform penile traction at home along with medications in mild cases. A few studies have shown the positive effect of penile traction as well. It helps in stretching the taught muscles thereby releasing the abnormal curve.
Surgery for Peyronie’s Disease – There are three types of surgeries for the treatment of Peyronie. In one surgery, the opposite side of the curved penis is made shorter, in another surgery, that side of the curved penis is made longer.
