When a bone breaks, it is known as fracture. It can be open or closed. Open fractures are with a wound. While closed fractures have no wound on the skin.
There are also other types of fractures such as –
1. Transverse Fracture – The Fracture line is crossing the bone transversely.
2. Oblique Fracture – Fracture line is oblique.
3. Spiral Fracture – Fracture line runs spirally in more than one plane.
4. Comminuted Fracture – In this fracture type, the bone breaks into various fragments.
5. Segmental Fractures – In this, there are two fractures in one bone at different levels
X-ray and preoperative blood tests are performed to check the type and extent of fracture. So that the treatment protocol can be decided. If surgery is performed then The x-ray is taken post-surgery as well. This helps in knowing the placement of the implant and the success of the fracture internal fixation surgery.
Support the area and reach the hospital as soon as possible.
Don’t try to pull the joint back inside, you may end up damaging it more. Just support it and visit the hospital today.
Watch out for any pain, feeling of tightness, swelling or discoloration in the limb as it can be a sign of tight plasters which can lead to some serious complications.
No, you don’t have to. You can live your whole life without any difficulty or even remembering about any implant inside your bone.
Reduction of fracture– If the bone is dislocated as well, then it’s reduced. If it is not able to get reduced without surgery then surgical protocol is followed.
Splinting/plaster cast – Depending upon the area of fracture and the type of fracture, the plaster cast or the splint is applied.
Surgery – If the fracture is complicated or there are more than two bone pieces, then surgery is recommended. The bone is fixed with screws and plates. In the surgery the dislocated bone is taken into alignment and the fracture ends are joined together with the help of nails, wires or plates as per the requirement, known as internal fixation.
