Elbow joint is made up of the arm (lower end of the humerus) and the forearm bones (Radius & Ulna). During the Elbow replacement surgery, first of all, anesthesia (regional or general) is given. Then an incision is made on the back of the elbow joint.
After that, the bone ends are cleaned and the damaged surface is removed.
The lower end of the bone in the arm (humerus) and the upper end of the forearm bone (ulna) are replaced. Both these implants are fixed into their bones snugly with cement.
A hinge is attached in the middle of these bones to allow smooth movements.
After that, the movement is checked and the incision is closed.
The patient is then sent to the recovery room.
