The ankle joint (talocrural joint) is made up of the two bones of the lower leg (tibia and fibula) and one small bone of the foot (talus). The ankle joint helps in walking by moving the foot upwards and downwards. For Ankle Replacement surgery, first of all, anesthesia is given to the patient. After that, an incision is made in the front of the ankle joint. The joint surfaces are prepared for the implants and the implants are fixed in place. A plastic spacer is also placed between the two joint surfaces. After checking the smooth movement, the incision is closed and the patient is sent to the recovery room.
